I have two external hard disks, one of seagate with which i never had any problems. But then i ran out of space and bought another gb hard disk to which i had to change the casing unfortunately. At first there were no problems and it worked fine on my laptop, which has windows XP SP2. However then i unplugged it and plugged it into another computer, it did not recognise it as a mass storage device.

It recognised it as a generic USB Hub. It doesnt show on my drives anywhere, in My Computer, or in device manager. I tried uninstalling and installing it again, but nothing worked.

But the thing is that it worked 2 days ago, and it even has some files stored on it. Just the computer started to recognise it as a generic usb hub instead of a usb mass storage device. Therefore it installs the wrong driver, and i cant seem to figure out how to manualy install the usb mass storage driver from the windows directory.

I need to try them now, ill let you know if it works. Thanks again, i really appreciate this. Remove the HD from the Case, and plug the empty case to see if Windows detect it. Then unplug it put in the HD, making sure that all the contacts are good, as often, it require some effort to plug in the IDE cable securely This could have been the problem in the first place.
